This is a clip of the SSC Ultimate Aero's official record run in the state of Washington. On September 13, 2007, SSC managed 257.41 mph (414.31 km/hr) in its first run. During the second run, it topped out at 254.88 mph (410.24 km/hr). An average of 256.18 mph (412.28 km/hr) from both runs has made the SSC Ultimate Aero the official fastest production car in the world, recorded by Guiness Books of World Records. On October 9, 2007, The Guinness Book of World Records officially recorded the SSC Ultimate Aero as the fastest production car with a top speed of 256.19 mph (412.28 km/h). Because of the "S" bends and uneven pavement from the highway, the driver of the Ultimate Aero, 71 years old Chuck Bigelow (an auto enthusiast with no racing or testing background), says that there was a lot more pedal to push. SSC will send an Ultimate Aero to Europe to test its true top speed on one of Germany's ultra-smooth test tracks. SSC is also in the works for developing a 220+ mph ultra-luxury sports sedan to target "Guinness Fastest Luxury Sedan", set to debut in 2009. 1. SSC Ultimate Aero (256.2 mph) (412.3 km/h) 2. Bugatti Veyron (253.2 mph) unofficial 3. Koenigsegg CCR (242.0 mph) previous holder 4. McLaren F1 (240.1 mph) previous holder The SSC Ultimate Aero also holds Road and Track's slalom record, previously held by the Ferrari Enzo. lol what are you trying to say linn1000? that british roads suck? out west we dont salt the roads like they do in the midwest so they dont get cancer.and i have to admit washington roads are well maintained. montana roads being the worst ive seen. but good roads and good weather dont explain how an engine is still strong, dependable, and gets 22mpg(5.2ltr)after 34 years of continual use

this car suks ass!! the venom viper 1200 tt can sooo beat it,, top speed of over 285
linn1000 (September 8, 2008 at 2:31 pm)
...and if this thing will do 270+ mph then lets see it!!!! if you yanks are as big and bold as you say you are...you'd have been ramming the headlines in everyones faces!
linn1000 (September 8, 2008 at 2:29 pm)
This argument sucks...American Vs Europe... Whats the first thing 99% of yanks do when they come into money?? Buy a big BMW/merc, Ferrari or Lambo....OH!! Lets all rush out and buy a Vette, with LEAF SPRINGS!!! after all its the USA culture with their Beverly Hill showboating all Limo's and all that..how many cars are USA's?? not many...

Put your car through 34 British winters and hit a few pot holes....see what happens!! Anything will last for ever in sunshine and smooth roads!

it beat the record on a public road??????????? I live in Europe and that fact alone is ludicrous. Nobody bothered to mention that over here. I just assumed it was under test conditions. Get this car onto a proper test track with a test-standard driver and I am sure it will do 270+
k0h0nen (September 7, 2008 at 11:49 am)
wow..it would be great to get hit by that...

beat it by 3 mph on a 2 mile stretch of public highway at an elevation of 1700 ft the bugatti needed every inch of a five mile straight on a perfectly flat TEST track. to be 3 mph slower with twice the cylinders twice the turbos and 17% more displacement
