That's actually no accident; Jerry Garcia was an early and big bluegrass fan. This is one of those instances where bluegrass meets the Hippie aesthetic. The Deadhead tradition of taping concerts actually started in the Bluegrass community: musicians would record live performances to dissect really good pickers' performances and then trade them with other pickers. The Band, The Dead and other bands were into the melding of old music with Rock 'n' Roll. Add Dylan to the mix, and it's just magic.

Thanks freetickets. I didn't think to look for the version on Youtube, and sho' nuff it's listed in the menu on the rifht. G.E. Smith's intro and solo are really nice and fluid. Next time I play it live, I'll channel his licks.
