I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my little brother 2 years ago. This is the song that we played at his funeral. Just be strong.

Until it hits you,
It doesn't hit home.

I never liked this song until my grandparents picked it to be played at my dad's funeral. Now it always brings me to tears.

Vince wrote the first verse years before the second. The first verse was for Keith Whitley, the lines "you weren't afraid to face the devil, you were no stranger to the pain" are from a Keith Whitley song. When Vince's brother died he wrote the second verse.

Actually Vince Gill wrote this song for and about his brother when he died. However, he was close to Keith whitley and did perform this at his funeral.
