This incident was video recorded by Simon Lowe. 233 people where on board this jet bound for Lanzarote. The number 2 engine sucks in one bird (a crow or corvid) as the plane rotates off the runway. T.V. news reports of two herons being sucked in are wrong. Congratulations to the crew and air-traffic controllers for the calm and professional way they dealt with the situation. Acctuly the newer engines like thoes installed on the new Airbus A380 could sustain 7 bird strikes before something like this happend. We defeat the bird...

Isn't it wonderful what a simple yet unsurpassed creature (when it comes to flying anyway :) ) can cause? We humans think we're all that.

my question is where are the people that were on board? don't they have some sort of immediate evac protocol?

Well the pilots are instructed to shut down the engine in case of malfunction, so i would say yes. Running a damaged engine aint very smart. ;)
