The two versions are not so different. Perhaps the break in her registers is less apparent here. Butt's training with Jean de Reszke probably accounts for her attention to dynamic changes, use of rubato, and wide palette of tone colors. A magnificent singer! Other great performances of this hymn include those of Galli-Curci and Flagstad.

This was such a wonderful time for classical music. The English is so understandable. What fabulous legato line. And oh so fashionable to be an alto. Just beautiful--again--thanks for these.
