They do use chromatic riffs, but its hardly a signature sound of theirs, you hear a chromatic thrash riff and you dont think ohh that sounds like metallica. As i said 90% of their songs are in e minor. Kill Em All has plenty of chromatic riffs for sure but hardly any of the stuff after that did. If you are honestly suggesting this song is inspired by St Anger also then..well i dont know what to say..No recorded metallica songs (that i know of) use a sevenstring in standard tuning.

warfalcon53 (October 10, 2008 at 9:09 pm)
st anger they tuned down to drop c, and james hetfield used a 7 string on tour...metallica until load was tuned to standard.....2 albums were a half step down....the most recognizable riff ever...master of puppets, is chromatic....jump in the fire....chromatic...for whom the bell tolls....chromatic....whiplash..chromatic...through the never....chromatic...hmm, im seeing a trend......and part of that trend is, youre an idiot

You obviously have an ear for music, but you are missing the point here. This is not Mozart. There are similarities that I, the "unlearned" listener, pick up on. The lead singer has the very same growling voice that James used to have. The vocals remind me a lot of Metallica's "Leper Messiah" and I think the resemblence of their voices are uncanny. While I will admit that Trivium's guitar riffs are a bit more technical, they seem to follow the same format that mighty Met set up years ago.

Gotta say i totally diagree with you here..This song uses a seven string for a start..when has metallica ever used a seven string? Tallica also tend to stick religiously to e minor for 90% of songs, the main riff in this is chromatic. If you are going to compare them to an 80's thrash band go for exodus or testament.
The guitar work is also miles miles more technical than anything kirk or james could ever hope to play.
