It was inedible muck; and there wasn't enough of it!

He was interviewd for the Pulp documentary about losing ones virginity, which was filmed a while after the Ruddles ad. It's on the "Sorted for Films and Vids" video and the "Pulp Hits" DVD if you're interested

"One of Stanshalls final appeearances as Sir Henry was in a television commercial for Ruddles Real Ale (c. 1994), where he is portrayed by a cross-dressing Dawn French, presiding over a family banquet at a long table. Stanshall reprises the role of Hubert, reciting a poem loosely based on Edward Lear's The Owl and the Pussycat, at the end of which all the diners produce oars and row the table offscreen."

Yes it is definitly Dawn French.
There was a second shorter ad, but I dont have that. I also vaguely remember an add for diamond white cider that used "Canyons of your mind" and included an animated Viv lol

Advert is better than the beer.

They might as well have paid him in beer...they probably did . It would save him paying by check at the off licence.

I wish this commercial was of better quality seeing how it's the final know appearance of Stanshall before his death. God I miss him.

I think so, but I've never heard or read anything about her involvement. |
