It's is a bit difficult to get an idea of fan noise since the fan was laying down on its back, completely blocking air flow (resulting in more noise. A badly designed fan grill can make a huge difference. Thermaltake's old Spark 7+ Xaser edition is a good example as it sounds like a hair dryer if you don't pull off the grill. The Xaser fan grill looks alright, but is designed terribly.
Anyways, I've read reviews that say these are some of the quietest if not the quietest fans on the market.

SomeOne8787 could have said this nicer, but yes, he is correct, one of the extension cables has a resistor on it to reduce voltage and lower the fan speed (rpm), in order to reduce noise.
