This is a segment from D. A. Pennebaker's film, Dont Look Back (a documentary on Bob Dylan's tour of England in 1965). In the film, Dylan holds up cue cards for the audience with words from the song on them. While staring at the camera, he flips the cards as the song plays. Interestingly, there are intentional errors throughout the video. For instance, the song's lyrics say "eleven dollar bills," but the poster says "20 dollars". The video takes place in an alley behind The Savoy Hotel in London where poet Allen Ginsberg makes a cameo appearance.

To say the sons of the pioneers and Jimmie Rodgers are unoriginal just makes you sound stupid. Jimmie Rodgers created country music from the music to the whole cowboy image. Sons of the Pioneers also created the genre known as westerns The difference between them and the rock bands is that they don't have a bad song. All of those rock bands have a handful of good songs and the rest are decent. Rodgers and the Pioneers don't have a bad song. Their songs are just as good as any rock song.

There is a reason why there are so many styles of music. It's because there is someone like you and I who are passionate about the music they listen to. To say one style of music is better than another just shows how little you know about music as a whole. Everyone likes something different and it's pointless to try and change their minds. You notice how the greatest artists never compare themselves to anyone else. Thats because they respect the music that came before them.

People listen to the music that makes them happy. You may think that Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie are bland and boring, but there are a million other people who will say other wise. Who cares what music is more complex. As long as there is someone who enjoys you shouldn't knock it down. I'm not impressed with Eric Clapton or Hendrix. But I understand why people like them.

Regardless of genre, Mercury was soulful. Regardless of genre, Bob Dylan did not write intense or complex MUSIC. Regardless of genre, Clapton and Hendrix were fantastically skilled, innovative, original guitarists, and The Beatles were undeniably the most important, influential music act of all time. I respect that your culture has rammed a diferent style of music down your throat, but stop denying the undeniable truth. How the hell can you think Guthrie sings soulfully and Mercury doesnt't lol?

So far you have said absolutely nothing that holds true. Jimmy Rogers isn't great at all, Chet Atkins is completely mediocre when compared to countless guitarists out there, Guthrie's music is some of the most incredibly tedious I've ever heard, Sons of the Pioneers are not great musicians when compared to the artists I'm shopwing you, nor are their songs great by any standard. Every time I show you the undeniable best in their field, you deny it and show me an undeniably inferior artist.

You have to stop asking people to respect mediocre artists when you fail to respect the worldwide acknowledged and respected true greats. No-one denies that Mercury sings soulfully, that The Beatles were more important than Dylan or everyone else, no-one thinks Clapton is mediocre, and no-one in their right mind would have the ignorance and bias to compare an average guitar player like Chet Atkins to one of the greatest guitar players to walk this earth, Hendrix.

Now those are musicians you have to respect. Jimmy Rogers? His yodelling is annoying. Yodelling is annoying no matter what you try to yodel. Fact is, this conversation will only be over when you admit this. I'm waiting for you to apologise for comparing Chet Atkins to Hendrix; Atkins, who is bland and unoriginal and technically inferior, and Hendrix, who is the complete opposite and who made truly brilliant music. Denying that Mercury is soulful was incredibly retarded as well, to be fair.
FailedNinja2 (October 6, 2008 at 7:36 pm)
I respect that he is a musician, but he is incomparable to the true greats. The Beatles, the most important music act of all time writing some of the most brilliant songs ever written eg. Let It Be; Jimi Hendrix, who understood the guitar like no other, with a totally original, brilliant sound that was all his own; Freddy Mercury, one of the most soulful singers to ever walk the earth; Clapton, who achieved beautiful subtlety and originality an a pioneer with the electric guitar.

Their music is not great. Queen's music was great. The Beatles' music was great. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Iron Maiden, David Bowie, their music is great. Guthrie, Jimmie Rogers, Sons Of The Pioneers? Their music isn't great at all. It's bland, uninspirational, uninteresting, unoriginal, repetetive, unimaginative and totally incompareable. They are not great musicians; Hendrix and Clapton were great musicians. Listening to them, their songs aren't great either.
