Alright let's see
Australian Open: Federer. He wants to come right out of the gates and show everyone that the King is far from dead.
Roland Garros: Nadal, no explanation needed.
Wimbledon: Federer. The King reclaims his favorite castle in another epic battle with his arch-nemesis, Nadal.
U.S. Open: Federer. Djokovic and Murray are tempting to pick here but I think one more at Flushing Meadows for Federer before his true decline begins (this year wasn't the true one :-P )

I think it was mainly because Federer was seen as such a "bad guy" in the sense that he was between Andre Agassi and a perfect ending to his career, a U.S. Open title. Also, Federer began donning all black outfits at the U.S. Open, much like his George Lucas-created counterpart.

Don't "get" the Darth Federer thing.
