One way to listen to Handel is to first look at some pictures of London by a guy named Hogarth from the c. 1740s; everyone had bad teeth, there were hogs in the streets, lots of people passed out from too much gin, whores everywhere, starving babies, everybody pockmarked from small pox, all the stuff Handel saw looking out his window. And nobody had had a bath in their lives.
